Wednesday June 11 was the first Soil Day at the newly redesigned Learning Garden at Riley Park. A group of volunteers and staff from LMNHS helped to build the border of the would-be garden by removing grass and adding soil.
The soil used was donated by SuperSoil Landscape Depot, Cloverdale, BC, who we are very grateful for. Super Soil also donated soil in 2017 for our raised beds in the Riley Park Community Garden and it has proven to be an excellent growing medium.
We managed to line the entire perimeter of the garden with soil and finish off the soil pile on the road by 4 pm.
We had an amazing turn out of at least 18 workers over the course of the day. Thank you to everyone who contributed. We look forward to continuing our work at the garden!
First, we removed the grass at the very border so that grass wouldn’t grow through the soil.
Then we added the soil and shaped it so it is one foot tall and one meter wide.
