June 2025: Volunteering Opportunities!

This month, Little Mountain Neighbourhood House is looking for volunteers to help out at a variety of events in Riley Park.

Building the Learning Garden

Has the little patch of land by the Riley Park Field House ever caught your eye? For over 30 years, this space was gardened by Ed Shum, a long-time local resident. Little Mountain Neighbourhood House Society (LMNHS) is pleased to share that we are developing a new garden there. With education at the heart of this space, we envision community members gathering to learn about plants of significance to Coast Salish peoples.

Want to help us in building this garden? Sign up to volunteer for Soil Day on Wednesday, June 11, 10 am - 4pm. We will be shovelling soil in the garden to create plant beds.

Riley Park Farmer’s Market Donation Station

On the first Saturday of every month, LMNHS has a booth at the Riley Park Farmers Market. We collect fund donations from shoppers and food donations from vendors to support our food literacy programs. We also host an ‘Ask a Master Gardener’ table, where the public can pose questions to trained Vancouver Master Gardeners.

Interested in volunteering at our farmer’s market booth? Our volunteer shifts are 9:30 am - 12 pm and 12 pm - 2:30 pm. Contact Joanne at joannem@lmnhs.bc.ca to sign up!

Hillcrest Summer Festival

On Saturday, June 21, the Hillcrest Summer Festival will take place at Riley Park. There will be booths from a variety of food, crafts and community organizations. LMNHS booths will be stationed at our Community Garden and our brand-new Learning Garden.

Want to volunteer for the LMNHS at the festival? We are looking for volunteers to help plan activities or help out on the day. Contact Joanne at joannem@lmnhs.bc.ca to sign up!
