'Tis the season for pruning 🌳

By Bernice Ng

The July 19 work party consisted of three main tasks: pruning the fruit trees, cleaning and prepping garden beds for planting, and building up the compost.

Alex showed the gardeners some samples of seeds that can be planted in the garden bed. Some of these seeds include Blue Dwarf Kale, Mustard Greens, and Hakurei Turnip, all of which will be ready to eat during the Winter months.

Alex demonstrates how to save seeds from a dried kale plant.

The main task of the day was to prune the fruit trees. Pruning refers to the removal of dead branches and stubs on a plant to promote healthy growth.
