🌱 Sunday July 4th, Small Group Gardening Session at RPCG 🌱
July 1st weekend is the last planting weekend for fall/overwinter carrots. On Sunday we planted 2 varieties of carrots and will add turnips and beets to the same bed over the next few weeks. It was the first tomato & zucchini harvest and last pea harvest. Next week cucumbers!! A big thank-you to the new horizons for seniors grant for funding our ice cream ‘sandwiches’ for lunch. A perfect finish to a warm summer day.
With your help, we raised $347.75 at the Donation Station yesterday and a whole cart full of fresh locally grown produce. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this possible. The food will go towards families in need at our food distribution station this Friday.
Join us at the next Donation Station on Saturday, August 7th. If you are interested in volunteering, please email info@rileyparkgarden.org.
🌱 Sunday June 27th, Small-Group Gardening Session at RPCG 🌱
"Today was Garlic harvest Day. It was the hottest day of the year so far, so we erected the canopy and made use of the water supply to keep ourselves (and the plants) cool. Additionally, we harvested green onions, many different types of lettuce and salad leaves, and arugula. We also cleared the majority of the peas as they were ready to pick, and another large box of strawberries! ... A garlic-themed lunch was served at the end of the work party, followed by seasonal fruity muffins!" - Angela Hoy, Lead Gardener
The Sounds of Summer Event held on July 30th was a success! The musicians, Toto and Angelo performed beautiful Afro-Cuban music in the Riley Park Garden. Small instruments like shakers, maracas and cans were passed out to the audience, encouraging them to join in on creating music.
Thank you to Toto and Angelo for an amazing performance as well as the event organizer, Shahira, for creating an opportunity for the community to come together and groove to music.
